"Re: The Immigration Law" by Pat - 6.24.18

Entry Submitted by Pat at 10:30 PM EDT on June 24, 2018

"The Immigration Law for MenoReno" by JohnJ - 6.24.18

As you can clearly see, this law was made for “unaccompanied “ minors, NOT “ accompanied “ minors. This law was enacted to handle the teenagers coming in that weren’t accompanied by parents.

Trump was CREATING “ unaccompanied” minors by separating minors from their parents. Big difference. In April, when the zero-tolerance policy went into effect by the AG, Sessions admitted in his announcement that the zero-tolerance was being used as a deterrent.

The big difference between Trump policy and previous Presidents is the asylum issue. About 90% of people crossing the border, at port of entries, are asylum seekers, trying to flee the horrors of their countries. Past administrations had them fill out paperwork, and the weeks it took to investigate their backgrounds, run them through Homeland Security checks, and contact their country for background info, they were either housed together as a family there, or released with a court date. Stats show 98% made their court dates. Asylum is a serious issue and people want it. If enough data couldn’t be gathered to support their entry, they were deported.

However, when the zero tolerance took affect in April, Trumps policy was to take children away from asylum seekers and arrest the asylum seekers. Seeking asylum is not illegal. As a result, a U.S. immigration judge and the Emeritus President of Immigration Judges Association says Trumps arresting of asylum seekers violates U.S. Immigration law and International law.

The President of the American Pediatrics Association has gone on record stating this policy is child abuse. We don’t separate children UNNECESSARILY from parents, because we don’t have the resources in the U.S. to mass house children. That’s why we got rid of orphanages, because children don’t get the hugs and daily attention needed to be mentally healthy and keeping them from stunting their mental development.

So those that say we have always done this, aren’t telling the whole truth. To make things worse, there are now reports from the White House staff that once things cool down, they will go back to separating kids from parents again with the asylum seekers. To compound matters further, we now have a tracking problem matching kids with their parents. There are cases of parents being deported without their kids, and this whole situation has become one big cluster f$&#!

What a nightmare for these children and their parents. Children should never be treated like this, when their parents haven’t broken a law. Seeking asylum at a port of entry is not illegal!

Thank goodness we now have hundreds of attorneys volunteering to take on these court cases, so parents can get their kids back. Several parents are already back in their home countries trying to navigate the U.S court system to get their children. Beyond sad and so unnecessary.

Namaste,

Pat
