"800 Number Confusion" by Big H - 5.23.18

Shout-out to Big-H

Hi,

Sorry to add to your woes, but THERE IS an HSBC in Bangkok … A recent search showed the following address, “Khet Bang Rak, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10500, Thailand”

You are not alone in this troubling situation and there are probably many ex-pats in the Philippines ( and in Thailand and in Vietnam, Indonesia etc.) with the same question on their minds. I am an Australian citizen living in Cebu and this type of question has been on my mind for a while because I heard Yosef mention something similar …. He said (at least I think it was Yosef) that one would need to be in their country of birth in order to redeem but here again, no explanation as to why.

I too heard Kent Dunn mention having to travel to Hong Kong but I let most of what he says just wash over me if you get my drift, so it might be hot air. You would have noticed that he gave no rational reason as to why the Hong Kong thing and to me, it makes no sense because there is HSBC representation in Bangkok. Luckily, there is HSBC representation here in Cebu too but I share your anxiety and agree that this needs clarification. My gut feeling is that this question concerning ex-pats of all countries would have been planned for in the eventual roll-out of the RV and if you take the most simplest answer then it would say something like,“ you can redeem at any HSBC bank regardless of geographical location or nationality. I hope someone in “the know” can put this to rest.

Much Light,

John-B
