"To the Vendetta Minded..." by One Who Thinks - 8.11.17

Entry Submitted by One Who Thinks at 9:25 PM EDT on August 11, 2017

Before we condemn everyone who ever worked their way up in a company by knowing the business better than anyone else and got recognized for it, let us learn a little about Rhodesia / Zimbabwe. At a point a generation ago or so, the nation of Rhodesia was running like a top and producing more than enough to support their own people. People who flooded in from further north had a hard time rising above labor related jobs, but stayed and did well compared to where they had been or they would have left. Soon the once outsiders greatly outnumbered those who set up and ran the businesses and our now President Mugabe staged a coup and overthrew the whole system. They sought vengence against everyone who was doing better than they were before the coup. Owners of virtually every farm or business, and their families were killed or chased out of the country with nothing of their wealth to hold on to. The new power people owned everything and controlled everything and saw themselves heading into a perfect world.

Then reality set in... no one knew anything about running the businesses they now owned and ran. People who could grow food admirably could not properly distribute it or reach export markets of the past. EVERYTHING fell into disrepair and the economy collapsed. Massive inflation led to the outlandish notes we call Zim bonds, but whatever the number on the paper, it could not buy products no longer being produced and it was certainly not accepted internationally.

Today, the Zim holds great value because it is in the interest of the NPTB to make it so by basing it, not on anything earned or developed or in production, but on in-ground assets. No problem with that, but it does not address what drove their economy into the ground. It is often quipped that if you divide the wealth of the rich among the poor, most of the money will soon end up back where it came from unless something radical happens to the poor who were gifted.

Let's not follow the path of ruin and decay, but rather remove the worst of the worst to set an example and work with the best of those who remain to change the course of companies and farms so that we do not have to re-learn the experience of Mugabe and his hapless remaining citizens. Let's learn how to temper feelings with good business, learn how to make positive impact with newfound and undeserved wealth.

Don't get me wrong, I, too, stand to gain windfall blessings from simply holding a worthless piece of paper for enough years that it has been given a new value trillions of times higher than when it was printed just 9 years ago. It is a blessing to me and all those in my reach, but it is NOT earned or deserved. We will earn it only by how we employ it. Let us employ it wisely so that there is more stability and prosperity for all and not a future of crumbling enterprises and starving people, but now worldwide and not just in Rhodesia / Zimbabwe. It is in our hands, let's learn from history. Everytime history repeats itself, the price doubles!
