"Re: Global SITREP" by John - 7.10.17

Entry Submitted by John at 6:40 AM EDT on July 10, 2017

"Global" - GCR/RV Intel SITREP - Monday - July 10, 2017

Without perspective you'll be tryin' to second-guess your whole life.

James said,

"2Count it all joy, my brothers, bwhen you meet trials of various kinds, 3for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."

and yet, so many times, as I've come back to this passage of scripture, I'm left wondering..."What if?"

What if I'da done what a buddy of mine did with his Dinar, stuck it in the sock-drawer and, took the position of

"If it happens in my lifetime, we'll be lucky"?

Well, one thing's for sure, there are things that I may have avoided having gone through. Life itself may be different and, where I sleep at night may be closer to where my horses are or, maybe it's they'd be closer to where I'm sleeping. At the same time, it may have been a situation of not having any of those experiences to look back on, having had the opportunity to have learned what I did, lost whatever parts of my material life that I lost and, on July 10, 2017 I'm still waiting...ever now and then, wondering if "Iraq is ever going to get their mess cleaned up." Then, I probably wouldn't have been paying attention to all of this the way I have and, the largest part of this blessing may have gone completely unnoticed by me. But, alas..."the what ifs" are the same as the will always be, very specific questions with no provable answer. Then, I consider the value of actually having gone through all that I have and, the first thing of note is, it's all in the past-tense and, while there may have been times when it has seemed "never-ending", never once, did I pitch a tent and relegate my life to being stuck there. Every day there was "new hope" for the end to arrive.

It's times like these that I'm reminded of the the old widow woman who faithfully followed the Lord her whole life and, each night before she would close her eyes to sleep, she'd pray. On this particular occasion she said,

"Lord...I know I'm not yet where I'm supposed to be...and, I know that I'm not where I'm gonna be... but, Lord...I'm truly thankful....I ain't where I was!"

You see, it's hard to be thankful for something that you don't already have so, James is telling us in advance of going through troubled times to be thankful...why? Because, if you maintain an attitude of thankfulness, you open yourself up spiritually to glean everything you need to from every experience. There's a lot to be said for the "fruit of the Spirit...love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." Then, if you consider some of your old ways of thinking, when this "new wine" is brought into your life, you'd have nothing but "old wine-skins" to try and put it in.

Do I need to go further?

in Christ, John
