"Couple of Poems Break?" by Dezerro - 6.26.17

Entry Submitted by Dezerro at 6:12 AM EDT on June 26, 2017

The Final Run of Maryanee

Over tall sails a darkening storm
Preparing a fury untold
Here the proud ship Maryanee
Felt the chill in her hold

Suddenly spiraling shrieking and crying
Oceans so living now told
A story of future mystical journeys
And magic about to unfold

Walls of brine steaming and spraying
Rising toward blue skies
Swirling and screaming funnels of madness
In spiraling thundering sighs

Time there became a mystery
Of missing days and years
Space now bending in tortuous curving
Converging on dark hidden fears

Gravities cursing and holding at bay
A perversion of time honored rules
But all in the end converting to dead ending
Motionless cool fading pools.

Suddenly nothing of sound or of sight
Or of cool lunar rays or of hot solar days
Or of dreaming of futures so far into time
Or of quietly crying o’er gone poet’s rhymes
Or of planning a short sailing run to a sun
Or of dreaming a shred of a future of fun
Or of winding a course to a high distant mountain
Or of peering far down in some mystical fountain.

All at once silence pervaded the all
Signals eternal rang out with a call
Hailing this mystery ending perverse
This final dark sigh of a cold universe

The Name In Glass

As I wrote the name on cold winter glass of the window, she moved toward the house, right down the narrow gravel lane leading out of the forest of mist.

I began the name again but larger, the letters in gentle curves and angles and she was closer still, and then after seven more characters my finger hit the frame of the window, and she stopped.

Outside, a heavy fog hid the world in ever darker gray, and she faded away.

My daydreams -- always strong, vibrant and more real than reality -- they held me often in some alter-life.

I returned to the fireplace and its warm glow, picked up the tall glass and took a sip. I imagined its side frosted over, and there I traced the name again and again.

At the door, startling me and so real indeed, a knock, as from a small delicate hand, hesitant with cold, recently emerging from a forest of mist.
