"Battling Discouragement" by Anonymous - 6.23.17

Entry Submitted Anonymously at 1:07 PM EDT on June 23, 2017

Are you winning the battle over discouragement?

Exodus 6: 8-9 "And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord. 9 Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and cruel bondage.”

We all go through times of discouragement. But dwelling too long in discouragement can lead to disappointment, dismay, despair, depression, pessimism, worry, hopelessness and great sadness, which may even cause temporary feelings of letdown. But if we’re disappointed repeatedly, deep discouragement and despair may set in. When we dwell in discouragement, and can’t get our eyes off of our problems, then we tend not to listen to the voice of the Lord. Our ears become unable to decipher what the Lord is saying vs. what the world is saying.

The enemy is constantly attempting to immobilize you and discourage you from being a witness that glorifies Christ. The enemies of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin did the same thing when they were trying to build the temple. “Then the peoples around them set out to discourage the people of Judah and make them afraid to go on building. 5 They hired counselors to work against them and frustrate their plans during the entire reign of Cyrus king of Persia and down to the reign of Darius king of Persia.” Ezra 4:4-6

Satan is constantly sending his forces to dishearten and attempt to paralyze us through fear, as this is his nature. He will use whoever is available, and sad as it is, even other believers who are not abiding and remaining in Christ!

When we get our eyes off of God and fix them on our situations, we allow fear to both impede and demoralize us, in the same way it did the men who were sent by Moses and Aaron to spy on the land that the Lord was giving to them. “But the men who had gone up with him said, "We can't attack those people; they are stronger than we are." 32 And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, "The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. 33 We saw the Nephilimthere (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them." Numbers 13:31-33

I can not emphasize enough the importance of keeping our hearts one with God. When we take our eyes off of God and focus too much on the giants in our own lives, then just as the spies sent by Moses, we also get discouraged and allow our human fears to erode our faith. And when our hearts are not one with the Lord, then our eyes see our problems differently and make them larger than they actually are in God eyes. Our faith becomes much smaller than a mustard seed and the decisions we make are fear based, instead of faith based! Matthew 17:20
Let’s all battle and be intentional about keeping our eyes fixed on the Author and Perfector of our faith, Jesus Christ!

Lord, please draw us all closer to You today. Help us to keep our eyes on You and not get them too focused on the giants we face. Thank You for Your faithfulness. Keep us remaining in You and empower us to walk in the complete victory You desire us to have in You! In Jesus powerful name we pray, Amen
