"A Cowboy's Guide to the RV" by Fireswan - 6.16.17

Entry Submitted by Fireswan at 2:49 AM EDT on June 16, 2017

A cowboy's hat is precious to a cowboy.

Imagine being on a horse rounding up strays, tending to the sick, movng the cows to better pasture, keeping them out of the irrigation ditches. The sun beating down during the 10 hour day on the horse. Sometime during that day a storm could have kicked up. The hat the only protection when getting plummeted by hail, rain and wind.

Next to a good pair of cowboy boots, and a good horse, a cowboy's hat is a cowboy's most treasured possession. Given this reality, imagine how the cowboy felt when bikers threatened to "rip the hat right off of his head" the following story told by Chris Ledoux:

There are many nuances in this song that remind me of what's happening on IDC. Cowboys are usually loners. Sitting in a coffee shop swapping old rodeo stories is a special event. It means that the cowboy had to get another cowboy to watch the cows for the day, which takes some organization. And swapping responsibilities comes with a debt that has to be repaid. Carving out time to sit in a coffee shop with a rodeo buddy is a precious time.

The biker-bully comes into the coffee shop to stir up trouble. Showing off to his gang, he threatens to take the hat. When the biker sized up his target, he instinctively knew that the hat is the cowboy's most treasured possession.

Notice how the cowboy responded to the attack. "Now if your leather jacket means to you what this hat means to me then I guess we understand each other, and we'll just let it be."

This song comes up for me when I think of Richard when troll/bikers come into our house and threaten to destroy what we treasure. And Yosef. How many times have I read posts from the "RTC Gang" run smear campaigns about the Intel providers. How many times have I listened to Dr. WC "invite" Yosef to respond to a loaded question, and then put him down and question his integrity, implying that he can't know what he's talking about?

"Put down your sword, sister"

And the smear campaign against Richard? But if you still think it's funny, man, you got our backs up against the wall.

And if you touch his hat, you're gonna have to fight us all...

In gratitude to Yosef and OWK,

Bang a Drum
