Let's Protect Them... by BG

14 Days of Beauty & Gratitude

Day 9: Animals Are Truly Amazing. Let's Protect Them!
by WildlifeDirect

Elephants have their own vocabulary and speak to each other in a secret language that we cannot hear, which covers distances of several kilometers.

Elephants know each other as individuals and live in societies of tens of thousands of individuals. They celebrate births and reunions, and they mourn their dead. They have an uncanny ability to sense the intentions of each other and other species including us humans, and their memories far exceed ours.

Unless we do something about demand for ivory, elephants will go extinct within our lifetime, however. The same holds true for other endangered species, including pangolins, lions, tigers, sharks bees and birds.

Each one of us can do something to help.

1. Learn more. Choose an animal that is endangered. It could be pangolins whose scales are used for medicine. Lions and tigers whose bones are turned into soup. Rhinos whose keratinous horns are believed to have magical properties. Sharks whose gelatinous fins are turned into a very expensive soup. Bees. Birds. Find out what makes your animal special and unique. Find out what we can do to help the species. For example: don’t buy ivory, host a bee hive in a community garden, plant trees, or donate to a charity.

2. Celebrate, Create and Share.
Record a 20-second video about why you are grateful for the animal you wish to protect, and what you are doing to protect it. Share facts about what makes your animal so special! Invite your friends and family to join you in protecting one of their favorite animals. Share your video across your networks with the hashtag #NTVWild and #EarthGratitude.
