"Graduation Day" by Rosestillarose - 4.25.17

Entry Submitted by Rosestillarose at 10:13 AM EDT on April 25, 2017

Dear D.C. posters and readers,

There is something that has been brewing in me that I'm going to try to articulate. The writings here have helped it to crystallize.

Remember the hands on the elephant story? That's the one where many blind people reach out and touch different parts of an elephant's body and proclaim what the elephant is. It's a long wrinkled thing that feeds and spouts water. It's a big flappy thing that waves away flies. Is each one wrong or is each one right? Could it be neither one knows? Does it not matter, or must we listen to one another?

In our quest to discern fact from currency fiction, how does this apply? We've got views! The goat and the Galactic federation. The liberal left and the conservative right. The female saying allow, the male saying charge! Hahaha :) Yet, the total body is a thing of itself, unaffected by anyone's description.

Whoa Rose, I'm just here to track my investment. That's too abstract. Yeah, here's the thing though. Once a gazillion dollars finally lands in your trust, what will money mean to you anymore? When there's no need to count, won't it just be service received and appreciation given? You see how it boils down? For now, we are measuring, but when measuring ceases, it will be about how well can I appreciate your offering, and please tell me how I can serve you. How brilliant is that? Can we just pause here for a moment?!

Back to the story. At the same time we are amending and quantifying, if we can make room for the various contributions, I think that's fine. My mom was a Montessori teacher and I used to help her prepare the work stations for the preschool kids. A tiny teapot to pour water into tiny cups, and there was one work the kids loved that involved placing pearls into cups with tweezers. Anyway. We learn like this. We gain confidence in our abilities. That's good, and... graduation day will come.

I don't know if you've ever seen a Montessori classroom but there's an observation window. I used to sit there and watch the class sometimes and relish being a non-factor in the setting. I saw that when some kid started biting, they needed to be restrained. OWK, I appreciate you too. While the kid that got bit needed care first. Yosef, glad you let us know.

That classroom was a hot mess, until nap time when they all became angels.

Any of y'all parents out there? If your children are still young, it seems like it never ends. But if your children are grown you know it's over in the blink of an eye. Graduation day comes. Have a good day everyone, enjoy it.
