Currency Tracking Spreadsheet and Explanation

A Gift for You: Tracking Sheet, or the Old World vs. the New World

Dear Currency Investors aka Light of the World,

Of course, at these last final days, I know we would all like to escape from the dollars, dinar or zim, be they old or new, and immerse ourselves into the sublime joy of helping others.

But in the meantime, I can see that some in our community are feeling some anxiety and trepidation about the exchange process. In order to help you, I have made out a spreadsheet which I shall fill in each morning starting with tomorrow.

I will give a copy in MS Word format to Patrick, in case he wants to post it for you to print out multiple copies AND MAKE APPROPRIATE CHANGES for yourselves.

Here I could type a book about the nuances of this spreadsheet – and its limitations. However, this is just an internal tool, which doesn’t even have to be used. BECAUSE ULTIMATELY, YOU ARE WALKING INTO A COLLABORATIVE RATHER THAN AN ANTAGONISTIC NEGOTIATING ENVIRONMENT. It is all good. You are not wrangling for nickels and dimes for an ornery client, but rather you are just trying to achieve a fair compensation so that you can do grand and magnificent things with it.

That said, following are a few notes to bear in mind when using this spreadsheet:

Column 1 – those currency holders in Europe may want to add the Euro or Pound – or any NEW currencies – into the blank rows I left for you.

Column 2 – it is highly possible that the ISO 4217 Currency codes could all change with the GCR/RVs.

Column 3 – it is again highly possible that the ISO 4217 currency numbers could also change. The reason for these changes is obviously that certain fiat currencies would be retired and more substantive and backed currencies be adopted. New currencies get new identities. This would be standard modus operandi. IMPORTANT NOTE: IT DOES NOT HURT TO BE AWARE OF THESE ID CHANGES, BECAUSE THE ALPHA AND NUMERIC CODES IN THE PAST HAVE BEEN USED ON FEDERAL TRANSACTION RECORDING DOCUMENTS filled out by the banks. YOU DO NOT WANT THE CODES TO END UP FOR TAX OR OTHER PURPOSES INCORRECT, SO YOU SHOULD JUST BE AWARE THAT SUCH IDENTIFIERS EXIST.

Column 4 – it is also possible that various central banks could be joined with, or subsumed by, their treasuries, so prepare to see new bank or treasury names or new websites.

Columns 6 & 7 – you may find yourself substituting USN or a different symbol for USD in the headers, but more importantly, rather than focusing too much on a buy and sell price, certain CB websites highlight an “interbank rate” or some such similar name – the terminology can vary. This would be like the average of the two rates and really like a “professional courtesy rate” that a central bank would extend to another bank (i.e., no fee for exchange). All of this differs among the central banks, so read up a bit on these websites, if that is your interest. But the point here is that you, in presenting a large amount to a bank for exchange, are really like a small bank yourself, so to speak, rather than Aunt Molly, who is just returning from overseas and wants to exchange a few Euro. Quite a big difference, which you would expect to translate into a better rate.

Hope I have helped a little, Suzi
