Saving & Giving Mentality, Keeping Good Spirit, or Wealth Counseling

Transitioning From Saving Mentality to Giving Mentality While Keeping Good Spirit, or Wealth Counseling

by Anonymous

Many of us have discovered within ourselves a programming which I like to call the "pennypinching" mindset. We shop around for the best deal. We sacrifice purchasing luxuries today in order to maintain a cushion for that unforeseen rainy day. We remind ourselves that we never know, in this economy, when a layoff may occur. We've learned to prioritize our physical survival above that of our happiness (in the sense that purchasable experiences can provide happiness). Some of us even feel guilty when we spend the money that we've carefully saved up specifically to splurge and get that thing we want. Some of us have been conditioned to feel that the act of giving, in order to truly be meaningful, must come from a place of sacrifice on the part of the giver. And oh, have we learned to sacrifice. But what happens when you have SO MUCH that it's no longer a sacrifice to give?

Poverty is not just a number in a bank account. It's also a mindset.

An overlooked aspect of this whole event is the psychological dimension. We've been told that Abbott Downing will be offering wealth counseling to help us deal with the psychological turmoil that often occurs with sudden wealth. Many of us have been so focused on what we can accomplish with our wealth and what problems we currently struggle with (that will blessedly vanish overnight with a large cash injection), that we haven't really considered what new problems we may face. And having not considered them, we haven't very well prepared for them.

For many of us, the wealth counselors will be an invaluable asset.

For many, the internal adjustment from pennypincher to freeflowing giver will be nearly instantaneous. For others, it will take more time. But either way, it will be a process. Either way, we are moving from one paradigm to another. We are leaving survival mode behind...and it might not be as easy as we think to get rid of its psychological accoutrements.

The worry about the number in the bank account when making a purchase of hundreds or thousands or tens of thousands of dollars might not go away so easily. Buyer's remorse and spender's guilt may hang on longer than we'd like.

In an effort to help us rationalize our way through these emotional bumps in the road, let me raise a few points that may help put the overthinking mind at ease.

#1 You don't have to feel guilty about enjoying yourself. You've already lived a life of sacrifice. Now it's time to enjoy your freedom. If you spend a lot of money on something and it makes you happy, then you are supporting everyone who went into making that product or service and allowing them to live a better life. It's a win/win. You are supporting the economy and "voting with your dollar" and let's be realistic: economic hydration is at least a small part of why this is all happening in the first place. Don't feel bad about embracing your part in it.

#2 The bank account hit worry. If every time you spend money on a big ticket item, you are in the habit of worrying about that deflated rainy day cushion and what if you lose your job and how are you going to pay the bills, then you know it spoils the fun just a little bit for yourself even though you earned it.

After you exchange, you'll know your bank account is ridiculously huge, but the worry that you might run out still irrationally clings to you. Let me throw some numbers at you to help.

If you exchange at a ZIM Rate of only 10,000 dollars and you only exchange a single 100T ZIM note -- that comes out to 1 Quintillion dollars. If you only take 1% of that and allocate the other 99% for a humanitarian-service-oriented private foundation, that comes out to 100 Quadrillion dollars that you have for personal spending. Let's break that down a bit since many of us are used to living week to week or even day to day and carry around that mindset. If you have 100 Quadrillion dollars invested in a financial instrument that pays out 8% interest per year, you're making 8 Quadrillion dollars per year. Put another way, you're making roughly 153.8 Trillion dollars per week. Put another way, you're making roughly 21.9 Trillion dollars per day. Or 915 Billion dollars per hour. Hell, you're making 254 Million dollars per second.

I dare...I double dare you...I triple dog dare you to try to spend 254 Million dollars per second. Even if you could....even if you could...you'd only be burning through the interest. The principle (the source) would remain untouched and safe.

In other words, you're really set. You can release the worry, the guilt, the pennypinching ways that've helped you survive for so long. You can buy the things you want to buy. You can feed your spirit the experiences it's been craving but could never afford. You can live the life you want to live. You can make your dreams come true. You can give freely to your heart's content. You can give abundantly and without hesitation to that which resonates with your spirit. And it WILL mean something. It will mean a lot. Even though it won't be a sacrifice on your part. THIS is real abundance. You can heal from poverty's blight on your mind and all the little violences it's inflicted on your soul.

And you will.
