Donnie: Xi, Erdogan talk trade, Silk Road in Beijing July 30, 2015, 5:18 am

[07/30/2015 11:12:33 PM] Donnie: Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday, vowing greater coordination on “issues of major concern”. Following the Xi-Erdogan talks at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, the two sides signed a mid- and long-term plan for trade and economic cooperation.

China’s Ministry of Commerce figures show bilateral trade volume between China and Turkey in 2014 surpassed $20.9 billion, registering a year-on-year increase of 3.57 per cent.

China and Turkey, both important members of the G20, face mounting common challenges and obligations against the backdrop of a complex and volatile international situation, a gloomy global economy and grim security situation in West Asia and North Africa, said the Chinese president.

“We consistently advocate that China and Turkey should support each other on major issues and deepen our strategic cooperative relationship,” Xi told Erdogan.

Donnie: “The two sides should enhance mutual trust and lay a more solid foundation for friendship. [China] is willing to boost law enforcement and security cooperation between the two countries,” Xi added. Xi also invited Turkey to join the ambitious Silk Road projects offering to link it with “Turkey’s development strategy in pursuit of common prosperity”, said Chinese agency Xinhua.

A new map unveiled by Xinhua shows the Chinese plans for the Silk Road run through Central China to the northern Xinjiang from where it travels through Central Asia entering Kazakhstan and onto Iraq, Iran, Syria and then Istanbul in Turkey from where it runs across Europe cutting across Germany, Netherlands and Italy.

Xi on Wednesday also hoped for more coordination with Turkey on global economic governance, climate change and other issues to safeguard the common interests of the two nations and other developing countries.

Donnie: South African usage of yuan for China payments soars July 29, 2015, 1:17 pm

Donnie: The direct payments value between South Africa and China/Hong Kong denominated in yuan soared to 31.3 per cent in June 2015 from 10.8 per cent in June 2014 and 4.6 per cent in June 2013. [TBP] [TBP] Recent SWIFT data shows that the number of payments denominated in Chinese yuan or renminbi (RMB) for direct payments between South Africa and China increased by 33 per cent over the last 12 months and by 191 per cent over the last two years.

“The rise of yuan usage in South Africa is another good indicator of the cross border use of the currency”, Hugo Smit, Head of Africa South, SWIFT said.

“Much of this growth has to do with the strengthened bi-lateral relations between South Africa and China, which were renewed at the end of 2014 to include trade co-operation and sustainable investment opportunities between the two countries. As a result of this effort, yuan usage in South Africa should continue to grow at a good rate.”

Donnie: Iranian firms taken off UK sanctions list Thu Jul 30, 2015 6:19PM

Donnie: Britain has removed two Iranian companies operating in the oil, gas and petrochemical sectors from its list of entities subject to asset freeze. In a statement, the UK Treasury said Thursday it had taken Petropars Aria Kish Operation and Management (POMC) and Petropars Resources Engineering Kish (PRE) off its sanctions list.

The decision came after the two companies successfully applied to have their sanctions listings annulled before the General Court of the EU in May and the time to appeal the court ruling expired.

“The 2-month-and-10-day period in which it was possible for the EU Council to appeal this decision has now passed, and accordingly HM Treasury has published a notice announcing their delisting,” the UK Treasury’s statement said.

Donnie: North Korea Missiles Fired From Yemen Into Saudi Arabia, South Korean Official Says By Jess McHugh on July 30 2015 9:22 AM EDT

Donnie: Scud missiles like those pictured here were fired into Saudi Arabia from Yemeni rebels during the ongoing armed conflict between Houthi rebels and forces loyal to the ousted former government. An official on Wednesday claimed the Houthis bought them from North Korea.

Getty Images Twenty Scud missiles fired by Yemeni rebels into Saudi Arabia in recent months were bought from North Korea, a South Korean intelligence official told Yonhap News on Wednesday.

The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, did not give further details as to how South Korean intelligence had reached that conclusion, though officials in South Korea and the U.S. have long been aware that North Korea sold missiles to other nations.

Donnie: North Korea Likely Supplied Scud Missiles Fired at Saudi Arabia by Yemen’s Houthi Rebels By VICE News July 29, 2015 | 2:55 pm

Donnie: South Korean intelligence officials said Wednesday that around 20 Scud missiles fired at Saudi Arabia from Yemen by Houthi rebels and their allies originated in North Korea.

"North Korea has sold missiles to Yemen and sent missile engineers to that country in the 1990s," a former North Korean intelligence official told South Korea's Yonhap News Agency.

The Shia rebels fired the Scud missiles in retaliation for an ongoing bombing campaign in Yemen by a Saudi-led coalition.

Donnie: NK urged to drop opposition to Seoul's joining of OSJD By Yi Whan-woo The chief of an international body on railway cooperation has urged North Korea to drop its opposition to accepting South Korea as a new member, Yonhap News reported Thursday.

Tadeusz Szozda, chairman of the Organization for Cooperation Railway Lines, an association of 28 countries, said Pyongyang may be kicked out of the association if it continues opposing Seoul's entry.

The organization, known by its Russian acronym OSJD, is trying to revise rules on obtaining membership.

Under the current rules, an applicant nation should get consent from all existing member countries to join the association. However, it wants to ease the requirement to three quarters of member countries.

Donnie: MONDAY, JUL 27, 2015 10:45 AM EDT How China and Russia are running rings around Washington A geopolitical "big bang" just happened in Eurasia, and it's not good for United States

Donnie: Let’s start with the geopolitical Big Bang you know nothing about, the one that occurred just two weeks ago.

Here are its results: from now on, any possible future attack on Iran threatened by the Pentagon (in conjunction with NATO) would essentially be an assault on the planning of an interlocking set of organizations — the BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa),

the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization), the EEU (Eurasian Economic Union), the AIIB (the new Chinese-founded Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank), and the NDB (the BRICS’ New Development Bank) — whose acronyms you’re unlikely to recognize either. Still, they represent an emerging new order in Eurasia.

Donnie: New Silk Road Requires A New Monetary System by Dr. Jonathan Tennenbaum October, 2003

Donnie: This speech was presented to the conference, “Vision for Korea as a World Trade Hub” on October 31, 2003 in Seoul, Korea.

Some subheads have been added for publication. I want to thank Korea Trade Research Association for the opportunity to address your learned audience on two closely connected topics of decisive importance to the world's future. The first, is the present global financial crisis and what to do about it.

The second, is a grand strategy for the economic development of Eurasia over the coming 30 years.

This centers on the creation of a “Eurasian Land-Bridge System” or “New Silk Road” inter-linking the population centers and major development regions of Europe and Asia by a network of transcontinental infrastructure corridors, including high-speed ground transport, modern energy, water, and communications systems.

Let me explain why there is no way to adequately address either of these two topics without addressing the other. The conceptions I present are based in large part on the work of Lyndon LaRouche, the well-known American economist and statesman, who is one of the Democratic pre-candidates for the U.S. Presidential elections in 2004.

Mr. LaRouche would have liked to be here to address you in person, but unfortunately previous commitments required his presence.

Donnie: Looks like they were planning this in 2003!! New Silk Road Requires A New Monetary System

Donnie: Iran deal brings world powers closer BY FRANK CHING - 23 JULY 2015 @ 12:01 PM

Lauren305: ‹@Donnie› awesome find. Thanks for posting that.

BOBBY: Donnie..... where can one learn about this New Silk Road?

Donnie: THE historic agreement reached by the world’s major powers and Iran on that country’s nuclear programme marked the Obama administration’s biggest diplomatic achievement in six years. China was one of the P5+1 countries negotiating with Iran. What was its role?

China’s position on Iran has always been quite different from that of the United States.

While Washington pushed for sanctions to punish Iran and to bring it to the negotiating table, China and Russia were generally opposed to both economic sanctions and to maintaining an arms embargo.

Beijing had in times past been accused by Washington of proliferation activities and Chinese state-owned companies were repeatedly threatened with sanctions, including for activities involving Iran.

chattels: WASHINGTON DC-- A bipartisan pair of congressmen proposed a resolution on Wednesday, calling on the United States government to recognize the genocidal campaign perpetrated by the former Iraqi regime against the Kurds in the late 1980s.

“Thousands of people lost their lives and hundreds of thousands lost their homes. Today, Kurds around the world are still dealing with the consequences of that tragedy,” said Maryland Democratic Congressman Chris Van Hollen on his website.

Van Hollen, who introduced the resolution along with Republican Congressman Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, said, “This resolution is a message to the world, and especially the survivors and families of those touched by this calamity – we have not forgotten, our hearts go out to those affected, and we will not let the memory of this crime fade away,”
