ISIS Leader 'Baghdadi is Definitely Dead'

An Iranian official said Thursday he could confirm the death of the elusive leader of the Islamic State militant group (ISIS), but provided little details surrounding the claim.

Ali Shirazi, a representative of the foreign branch of Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, known as the Quds Force, said he was sure Baghdadi was dead, but declined to elaborate on how or when the elusive cleric had been killed.

The claim comes weeks after Russia announced it believed it had killed Baghdadi during an airstrike last month at what it called a meeting of hundreds of ISIS militants and officials outside of the jihadists' de facto capital of Raqqa in northern Syria.

It's uncertain whether Shirazi's claim Thursday was related to Russia's. Previous rumors of Baghdadi's death have proven to be false or mistaken on numerous occasions.

MrsClassy: IS Imam Admits Death of IS Chief Al-Baghdadi

ERBIL —On Friday, June 30, the imam of a mosque known as Abu Qutaiba in Tal Afar, a town held by the Islamic State (IS) in west of Mosul, indirectly confirmed the death of IS leader Abu Bakir al-Baghdadi while delivering the Friday khutbah (sermon).

Abu Qutaiba, who was very close to the IS chief began crying when he mentioned Baghdadi’s name during his Friday speech , according to Alsumaria News.

After the Russian announcement of the death of the Islamic State (IS) Abu Bakir al-Baghdadi in an air raid in May in the city of Raqqa in northern Syria, the extremist organization neither confirmed nor denied the news.

In front of dozens of worshipers, most of them militants and supporters of the organization, Abu Qutaiba suddenly cried when he mentioned the name of al-Baghdadi in his speech, and then he remained silent. His words implied that Baghdadi is dead.

In the same town, Abu al-Bara Al-Musalli, one of the most prominent IS leaders has admitted that the organization has lost the battle of Mosul during a Friday sermon.
