"Finding Emptiness" - Cowboy Down Under - 4.26.17

Once when I was exploring Buddhism, a Buddhist Master and those close to him invited me to learn a particular teaching on meditation. They told me about a place called Emptiness and the health benefits of visiting there as often as I could. As I sat on a pillow on the ground, they suggested I drop a set of keys or another object on the floor about four feet in front of me. They then asked me to stare at this item and notice all the thoughts as they passed through my mind. They instructed me to let them go until there were no thoughts left and silence came, "listen to the sound of silence" they said. “Keep staring, focus on that spot on the ground until everything else falls away.”

Most who come through this process will briefly experience what it feels like to be without thought, if only for a moment. When I first started working in the world of past life regression, I found a journal written by a master from the 1920s who was known for being able to take people into the world of emptiness in the blink of an eye. He would then hold them there for however long it took to retrieve their hidden memories of past lives. At the time, I was teaching on Oprah’s website. I helped about 50,000 students a year find themselves in love, so I slipped a version of this process into my class for past life regression work. It created a bit of a stir because many of the other masters who were teaching there did not like the idea of emptiness being so easy to find. There was too much money being made telling the masses they should read many books or attend several seminars or need many years to attain this state. I also used this guided mediation on those who had trouble sleeping, leaving them in peace to let them rest.

The process I found in the old worn out handwritten journal was this. Lay yourself down in a comfortable quiet place and start paying attention to your breathing. Don't see yourself breathing in and out, but visualize your breath staying inside your body, moving up and down as you inhale and exhale. Imagine it going to the top of your head and down to the bottom of your feet, as it passes through the colors of your chakras. From the violet of your crown, through the indigo blue of your third eye, into the turquoise of your throat, into the green of your heart, passing through the yellow of your solar plexus, through the orange of your sacral area and down into the base red of your root chakra, you see your breath passing on its way up and down. Following this, after three deep breaths, visualize yourself stopping at your third eye and standing there. In front of you is a door with a golden doorknob. You reach out, turn it and open the door. There is a rainbow of brilliant, sparkling light coming from the stairwell in front of you as you peer down inside your inner self. Take the handrail and begin the descent. As you do, say to yourself, “I am feeling more and more relaxed and deeper and deeper in peace.” See yourself as you pass through each of the colors of your inner self. Pause for a moment and experience your heart as you stand in the deep emerald green of your heart chakra. Continue stepping down the stairs, going deeper and deeper into the yellow, orange and finally to the final step, the red of your core self. Jumping off the last step, you float like a feather and gently land on the ground, surrounded by light and love. Now you are looking at yourself from above and watch as your body walks over to a big comfortable chair and sits down. Here you are enveloped in the emptiness that is you at your core. You notice a large mirror with a date on the bottom that will spin in either direction, past or future. You know that later you can walk over to it and take yourself on a past life exploration. For now, you simply enjoy the emptiness of being here and when you’re rested and ready, you move back out and up the stairway one step at a time, feeling refreshed and renewed as you ascend into the world above. When you reach the top of the stairs you reach out, turn the golden doorknob and step back into the world you came from, remembering everything you experienced.

As I started to learn this process, when I came back into the unreal world above, I practiced keeping the emptiness I found as long as possible. I sat up, walked into the kitchen of my small cabin on the river and got a cup of coffee, all the time practicing staying in the place of no-thought. I then saw how long I could lose my mind. Experiencing this emptiness was such a deep pleasure for me in the beginning, because at the time my mind was always so busy, it wore me out.

I have learned to live in this state of emptiness and mindlessness. Somehow it has kept me in love with myself, my surroundings and the world I live in. Some might say it is looking at the world through rose colored glasses. I say it is seeing the rainbow we are under all the useless chatter created by the mind. Living like this has served me well over the last fifteen years and has kept me living a rich and vibrant life, for sure. Ever since I met Tears of Joy and Happiness I have lived in the world of ‘everything is perfect if we let it be’. Underneath all the busy-mind of the outside world lives a calm and peaceful place called our True Self in its color-filled, mindless state. For several days now I have not read anything posted here on D.C. I did look at a few of the titles, but knowing inside all of it lies a very busy mind, I decided not to go there. This is the free will we all have as we sit here at the end of this long journey. I for one, have decided I prefer to come through to the other side of this blessing rested and ready to go to work, so I decided to protect my quiet mind by not filling it with chatter. I so look forward to the deep and meaningful campfire talks we will all soon have about the times we have come through, how it has affected us and how we will move forward from here. If you happen to notice this Cowboy seems to have ridden off into the sunset, please know I am only sitting over here under this Buddha tree resting my mind. In the end the silence you find inside yourself is the silence in which all the riches of this New Earth will be unveiled.
