From Florida Today
Buzz Aldrin flies with the Thunderbirds
Famed astronaut Buzz Aldrin may have stolen the Melbourne Air & Space Show on Sunday before its official start. At 87 he became the oldest person to fly with the Air Force Thunderbirds, an experience not for faint of heart and one usually aimed at someone much younger.Aldrin, who also is on staff at the Florida Institute of Technology was prepped for flight with Thunderbirds just before 10 a.m. And a lucky few - including FLORIDA TODAY - were able to take photos and video. Aldrin was in the air for about 20 minutes before landing. He received a round of applause as he flew past the main staging area. It wasn't immediately known where the Thunderbirds took Aldrin or what speeds they reached.
For those who know me, I live in Brevard County Florida, the SPACE COAST. the home of Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral. This weekend, we were honored, again with a fantastic air show at the Melbourne International Airport, the same spot that President Donald Trump chose to visit x2.
But today, we were honored by another living legend, who actually lives in Satellite Beach, the astronaut Buzz Aldrin who was further honored at the age of 87, by taking a ride in a Thunderbird jet.
This unbelievable ELDER was also the one who was on expedition in Antarctica this winter and had to be airlifted to New Zealand for medical treatment.
A side note is that on Saturday afternoon, I was outside my home and got the treat of my life when a B25 Panchito( I had to Google that one) was over my head. The props were deafening but brought back a part of history that I was only born in and saw in Hollywood movies.
