I note your comments about your feelings regarding Kent Dunn's report and your remarks about it being very personal when people reporting name person/s you know personally. I commend you for cautioning us all that facts are what are relevant if one is to draw informed opinions and to otherwise guard against ill-founded opinions that are based merely on hearsay. Inference is often the enemy of truth.
I have personally been through persecution based on misstatement of the truth and fully agree with your advice that we should not condemn anyone without sufficient due process.
I offer the following thoughts for consideration:
- Kent Dunn and Gary Larrabee did discuss the reported information between themselves before deciding to proceed with their video report;
- In hindsight, the report could have / should have reported the matter at hand without naming either of the two parties and it would still have got the message across to its audience;
- Self censorship is an important principle to apply to reasonably assure the protection of any and all innocent parties. Evidence (facts, etc.) is the means by which the guilty should be convicted of their crimes, not hearsay.
You are indeed right... "it is a wicked, messed up world".
The challenge will always be how best to shine light on wickedness and abhorrent behaviors of people in the world so that it may be shown for what it is and stopped.
Civil society must demand that it be so or risk losing its soul.
